For most of the last year, The Scribe's Tower has been a thing you needed an invite to see. Friends, a handful of DMs who put up with the rough edges, and important feedback that allowed me to watch what actually broke when real campaigns ran through it.
That part is over. The Scribe's Tower is open to everyone, today.
What it is, in one breath
A campaign workspace built by a DM for DMs. A clean codex for your world — NPCs, locations, factions, quests, lore — that doesn't make you fill out twenty-five template fields before you can write a sentence. And, when you want it, an AI co-DM that drafts with you and remembers your campaign across sessions, so you're not the only person holding all of it in your head.
That's the whole pitch. Two things: a codex that stays out of your way, and a co-DM that shares the load.
The free tier is real, and it works without AI
I want to be clear about this because it's the part people don't believe until they try it.
The free tier is a complete, clean codex. One campaign, a hundred records, handouts, and the initiative tracker — all yours, no card, no AI required. If you bounced off World Anvil because it felt like configuring a CMS, or you just want a tidy place to put your world and nothing else, that's a real place to land. You never have to touch the AI. It won't nag you to.
The AI is the paid feature. The codex is not. You can run your entire campaign out of the free tier and never spend a dollar — plenty of DMs will, and that's a real use of the tool, not a trial you failed to convert.
Where the AI actually earns its keep
When you do turn on the co-DM, here's what it's for:
- Less prep time. It drafts the NPC names, the sensory description, the encounter outline — the fluff that eats your Sunday — so a two-hour prep can be a thirty-minute one.
- Less prep complexity. This is the part I built the whole thing for. The AI keeps a living summary of your campaign — who's who, what happened, what threads are open — so when you're prepping session 27, it actually knows what the priest told the party in session 4. You stop being the single point of failure for your own world's memory.
It builds on your codex and your prior conversations, so the longer your campaign runs, the more it sounds like your world instead of generic fantasy soup. And everything is portable — Obsidian import and export both work, so nothing you write here is ever locked in.
